It’s a royal takeover. An epic romance set in a modern day monarch, Disney+’s Perfect Crown has been ruling over K-drama land, and it’s easy to see why. The plot is, after all, one destined to attract a crowd. There’s Grand Prince I-An majestically portrayed by Byeon Woo-seok, ever the charmer and definitive screen heartthrob since his Lovely Runner rise. Despite his obvious affection for his nephew who reigns as Crown Prince, a desire for the crown lurks beneath, so he must navigate the palace’s maddening politics and stay ten steps ahead. Then there’s nobleman’s illegitimate daughter-and-CEO Seong Hui Ju, who is playing the long game. Her intentions are clear: marry the Grand Prince, elevate her status, and evade the arranged marriage her father is scheming for her. She’s as audacious as they come, but she’s got the beauty and the brains to show for it. As for who is playing the plucky female lead? None other than South Korea’s little sister, IU.

Its success feels written in the stars. Only a handful of episodes are with us, but right from the get go, there’s plenty of promise for the show’s direction. The romantic leads are proving to have plenty of chemistry, but it’s everything else—from the riveting script to the production and its stellar supporting cast—that are seriously sticking the landing. With its fabulous comedic temperament and flawless pacing so far, it’s refreshing to see a female character chase after what she wants as relentlessly as Hui Ju does. Forget a sappy love story, she’s got her eyes set on the perfect match for herself—so why settle for anything less?

Whilst IU clearly understood the brief to a tee, the wardrobe department deserves a legion of fans of its own. Before being the potential wife of the nation’s prince, Seong Hui Ju is a woman of her own: not just CEO of Castle Beauty, but a powerful individual who can sway public interest with one snap of her finger. She’s plastered all over the news, and the pieces she wears sell out almost instantly. Exactly the kind of reaction one might expect for an idol to receive in this day and age. In keeping with her bold personality, ostentatious two-piece sets and power suits take up a big portion of the pie, but what we’ve really got our eyes on are the cosmic jewellery outings accompanying each Hui Ju moment.
The crowning jewel of the show so far is a pair of Boucheron Plume de Paon diamond earrings, which she wears for the turning point of the drama: her proposal to Grand Prince I-An. But the rest of her glittering array doesn’t let up either, as she flits from crawling Chanel sets to Tasaki pearls and classic Cartier pieces. Below, some of the most exciting jewellery worn by IU as Seong Hui Ju in Perfect Crown so far—with only more to come.
