Donatella Versace is considered one of the most pivotal fashion visionaries of our time for good reason. Her tenure as artistic director at Versace has seen statement collections that breathe life into the storied house time and time again, with her designs embodying a certain energy and individuality that is inimitable.
For the cruise 2024 collection, Versace collaborated with acclaimed pop maven and fellow house ambassador Dua Lipa in an exploration of creative freedom and confidence. Lipa took a deep dive into the maison’s storied archives, pulling inspiration from older seasons and reworking them with fresh verve into never-seen-before iterations. Metal mesh was updated in a crystal variation, while a high-slit miniskirt and body-con midi dress were injected with modernity—albeit remaining sensual and feminine in their cuts. As always, sharp tailoring was present throughout the collection, from blazers that were slashed to expose the midriff to full suits in soft hues of baby blue and pink.
Notably, Versace’s maximalist prints and motifs were brought back to the limelight, a noticeable turnaround from the pared back fall/winter 2023 show earlier we saw in the year. The house’s iconic 1995 butterfly and ladybugs graphics were lightened up on a black-and-white polka dot background, paired with bomber jackets and cropped leggings or a body-con jumpsuit that boasted the Medusa buckles at the straps. Accessories were vibrant as well, with signature bags such as the Greca Goddess and Repeat Mini Hobo returning in new sizes and colours. On feet, platform loafers and satin pumps in equally cheery shades rounded up the collection.
