Tommy Hilfiger has long been recognised as a household name in fashion, lauded for its preppy American aesthetic that exude class and youth. Dress shirts, plaid outerwear and lasting denim are some of the styles often associated with the heritage brand, with its ongoing exuberance fuelled by the streets of New York.
For its fall 2023 collection, the brand looked back at its prolific history, taking traditional designs and archival silhouettes and giving them a long-awaited revamp. Established brand signatures received a spirited update, such as the original Tommy Tartan that was first introduced in 2000. This season, the print is presented in a fresh remix of the classic red, white and blue, completed with a new TH monogram that references typography from ’90s collegiate varsity jackets.
Outerwear was undoubtedly the heart of the collection, comprising an array of statement pieces like plaid blazers, bomber jackets and evening coats—perfect to stay warm in through the season. All of them feature a relaxed fit that embody the current zeitgeist, albeit retaining the vibrant hues and bold branding that were celebrated in the ’90s. Cropped sweaters and light-washed denim return, making up timeless capsule pieces for any wardrobe. The Tartan treatment is extended to the accessories as well, from gold-hardware handbag to a wool scarf. The brand’s trademark New York puffer jacket also gets a reconstruction, in improved fabrics and a colour palette that will speak to longstanding fans.
Fronting the fall 2023 collection is American fashion model Paloma Elsesser, captured alongside her friends and family as they effortlessly don the garments and enjoy the cosy outdoors. The campaign serves to evoke nostalgic memories dating back to a time of friendship and intimacy, shot against the backdrop of a holiday cabin in the countryside. The imagery also ties in seamlessly to the global fall 2023 campaign that was released earlier in September—one that featured international ambassadors Stray Kids, Quincy Jones and Sza in similar settings.
Outside of the States, countries within the Asia-Pacific region have also tapped into their homegrown star power for the fall 2023 collection. Chinese actor-singer Greg Hsu and actress Li Qin grace the Tommy Hilfiger “Flip it Together” campaign, in a seamless blend of modernity and tradition, while Japanese creatives Kreva, Punpee and Sumire celebrate their prowess and togetherness representing the land of the rising sun.
