The flurry of fashion month always passes by in a blur; for weeks on end, the runway becomes the stage for the greatest designers of our times—where they allow their imagination to run free. Indeed, the past season turned out to be exciting in its own right, with industry household names presenting their myriad creative permutations for fall. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons traipsed through the past to give a synopsis of the future; romancing our girlish affections for sweater girl twinsets and vintage slips. Burberry’s Daniel Lee referenced all of the diverse catalogue of characters which the British house stands for, from polished, minimal looks to more louche and robust alternatives for when you’re hitting the London clubs past midnight. Meanwhile, Jonathan Anderson only continued to fascinate us at Loewe with his avant-garde twists on beautifully-made clothes.
It was also a marvellous outing on the accessories front. Where some of the most sumptuous options for footwear were stomped out in succession, with the best ones enunciating a mood of desirability and wearability. Overall, a preference for thigh-high boots—skimming hems or worn over stockings—was all abound. Whilst Chloé opted for a worn-in option, Fendi’s trompe l’oeil iteration mimicked the trouser-over-sole look. For others, the zeitgeist’s preference for a certain scarlet hue is similarly reflected on the runway; in a fuzzy heel iteration at MM6 Maison Margiela and on some checkerboard ballet flats at Versace.
By way of buzzy collaborations, Simone Rocha continues its Crocs tie-up—this time around vivifying more of its clog and boot silhouettes with pearls and jewels. Cecilie Bahnsen too, had its eyes set on a monochromatic update to its whimsical ASICS collab. For a tongue-in-cheek entry, Jonny Johansson sculpted a sense of the otherworldly with a twisted zip heel at Acne Studios. And should you be in the market for a beautiful pair of heels? One only needs to turn to Saint Laurent’s light-catching delivery, which held a mirror to the sensuality of the clothes presented on the runway.
With the exquisite array of footwear offerings we’ve seen this past month, we can only anticipate the day they arrive in stores later this year. Meanwhile, we’ll invite you to peruse our curation of the best shoes you should be looking to cop from the fall/winter 2024 season.
