It’s Hollywood’s biggest night—and the stars are turning out head-to-toe looks accordingly. No detail is too small for the Oscars, after all. On the—yes!—IRL red carpet outside Union Station and the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the best-dressed nominees, presenters, and guests topped off glamorous fashion moments with an array of standout beauty details; ones that serve as an extension of style, ones that make cultural statements, and ones that are sure to set trends for months to come.
Keeping things classic and fresh, Minari’s Han Yeri matched her scarlet Louis Vuitton gown with a sleek centre-parted low bun and a blooming Chanel ombré lip. British-Jamaican soul singer Celeste dazzled in Gucci with bold cat eyes, swirls of draped fuchsia blush, and a deep red lip that matched her fresh-off-the-runway bejeweled heart clutch. Award-winning Nomadland director Chloé Zhao continued to sport her signature bare glow and pigtail plaits above her chic yet unfussy embellished knit dress and white sneakers, while American filmmaker and director Garrett Bradley—nominated for Best Documentary for Time—also worked an au naturel face with waist-long braids embellished with puka shells. Then there was Best Actress nominee Andra Day, who served up a slinky gold mesh Vera Wang gown and soft ’70s glam with ruby smoky eyes and her soft ringlets crafted into a romantic updo. Adding to the drama of their crimson gowns, Amanda Seyfried wore a monochrome burgundy eye and lip combination, while Angela Bassett smoked out her gaze in an electric purple eyeshadow—as did singer H.E.R., who matched her Dundas gown with ultra violet wing. Also opting for an statement eye look was experimental documentary filmmaker, Sophia Nahli Allison, flipped the script of winged eyeliner with a sharp streak of white underliner, which she matched with a crown of braids.
When it came to debuting new looks, Margot Robbie unveiled a fresh set of fringe, while Halle Berry wore a recently shorn graduated bob that recalled the iconic geometric cuts of Vidal Sassoon. And ever the hair chameleon, Zendaya floated onto the red carpet with hip-skimming waves that cascaded down her back to mermaid-like effect. Here, the best beauty looks from the 2021 Oscars.
