As far as we’re concerned, the Stays are winning today. K-pop megawatts Stray Kids has made their debut on the Met Gala 2024 red carpet—and they’re looking as dashing as ever. For the evening, the eight-member strong troupe—comprising of Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Sungmin and I.N—stepped out on the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, officially making their mark as the first K-pop group to do so. And as with every Met Gala, it’s the dress code that makes all the difference.
Over the years, there has been no escaping the octet’s rising fashion clout. In the last year alone, different members of the group have been making waves at some of the biggest fashion shows on the roster, with some even clinching individual ambassadorship appointments on their own. Take Felix for Louis Vuitton and Hyunjin for Versace, for example.
So how did Stray Kids fare in accordance with this year’s theme? For 2024, the theme for the exhibition has been titled ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’, by way of highlighting some of the most rare, archival designs spanning across four centuries of fashion’s elaborate history. Meanwhile, ‘The Garden of Time’ has been appointed as its accompanying dress code. Considering their growing relationship with Tommy Hilfiger as ambassadors, it only made sense that the entire group decided to show up in ensembles custom-designed by the quintessential American designer. For the members’ individual looks, Tommy Hilfiger married his signature red, white and blue colour scheme with the subtle and understated elegance of botanical details—some blooming in gold on suit lapels or interpreted as embroidered florals on Felix’s silk suit.
Whilst this might be their first rodeo (of many to come, we hope) with the Met Gala, it certainly isn’t the octet’s first run at dressing to the nines for a red carpet ceremony. From South Korean awards shows to the likes of the recent 2023 VMAs, we chronicle all the times Stray Kids rose to the occasion and delivered their sartorial best for a high-octane red carpet moment.
