Nothing much to see here; just a fabulous gal, hair pulled back, tote by her paw. Such is the daily life of Samantha (@afghanhoundinthecity), the fashion dog (or shall we say dogue) who has been fastidiously uploading exceptionally posed shots of herself to her socials. Portraits that carry the weight of her life—as well as her splendid outfits.

Based in Edinburgh, the Afghan Hound may be young in years, but she is certainly old in spirit. “I move between the rhythm of the city and the calm of the countryside (my world is shaped by architecture, light, and atmosphere). I’m known for my long silhouette, expressive eyes, and, of course, my hair. I like to think of myself as a city girl with old-world manners,” she says as she poses for yet another shot on her now-recognisable sofa seat.
If her outfits feel instinctive, it’s because they are. True to her nature, she opts for things that feel like they belong on her body; pieces that feel effortless and not overdone, in line with her agenda for the day. With winter reaching its zenith for instance, much of her sartorial turns have been filled with plenty of delicious knits, wraparound scarves, and colourful beanies. Not to be forgotten, are her silky smooth tresses. Indeed, extra careful attention is paid to her beautiful locks; sometimes it is combed down to suit the lines of a specific outfit, other times, it is worn up in a sculptured bun for chic effect.
Always ready for her portrait, Samantha settles down by her fireplace at home as she shares with Vogue Singapore her sartorial sensibilities, the thought processes that go into being the Internet’s most fashionable dog, as well as how she’s dressing up for Christmas this year.
We love your everyday style. Tell us more about how you decide on a look for the day.
Thank you. My approach is instinctive; I think about where I’m going, the season, the textures of the city, and the mood of the day. Some days call for something tailored and polished, other days something cosy and effortless. I like my outfits to feel natural rather than over-styled.

What sort of looks are you usually drawn to?
I’m drawn to classic, timeless pieces with interesting textures. Wool, velvet, tweed, silk, leather. I love strong silhouettes softened with feminine details. There’s often a vintage or heritage influence, but always with a modern edge, and I like pieces that feel considered and elegant, not trend-driven.
We love what you do with your hair. How do you usually decide how to style it?
My hair is part of the silhouette. It follows the line of the outfit and the mood of the moment. Sometimes it’s sculptural and sleek, sometimes more undone; I like it to feel effortless, as though it belongs naturally to the look rather than being styled around it.

The festive season is coming up. What do you love most about Christmas?
I love the atmosphere. The slower pace, candlelight, long walks in crisp air, cosy interiors, and being surrounded by family. It’s a very tactile, comforting time of year, which I find inspiring.
Any colours you’re drawn to for the festive season?
I’m always drawn to deeper, richer tones at this time of year. Burgundy, forest green, deep navy, chocolate brown, charcoal, and soft winter neutrals like cream and stone. Occasionally a hint of metallic or sparkle for evening.
How will you be spending the holidays this year?
I’ll be spending the holidays quietly with my family; there will be long walks, hosting friends, festive meals, and plenty of time by the fire. Exactly how the season should be spent.

Could you share some festive looks you’ll be wearing?
Absolutely. Festive dressing is one of my favourite times of year.

For gift shopping
For gift shopping, I like something chic but practical. A beautiful coat layered over knitwear, a large tote, and accessories that elevate the look just in case I catch up with friends afterwards. Effortless, cosy, and city-ready.

For hosting guests
For hosting, I love rich, comfortable elegance. Think soft knits, velvet or wool textures, perhaps a beautifully cut coat or a relaxed tailored piece. It’s important that it feels welcoming and luxurious without being too formal.

For going to a party
For parties, I enjoy something a little more dramatic. Statement textures like velvet or satin, deeper colours, and silhouettes that feel glamorous but still refined. Festive, but never overdone.
