It’s the thought, they say, that counts. When it comes to jewellery, it is indeed the thought that elevates a gift from something merely beautiful to something meaningful. An object meant to symbolise the emotion of love, universal in its power yet endlessly varied and individual. The multiplicities of love is something that the Danish jewellery brand Pandora is especially adept at expressing.
Part of the reason is the spirit of Pandora itself. Open and accessible, the jewellery brand’s collections invite one and all to celebrate love in its many forms. Be it bold, tender or transformative, the breadth and variety of the brand’s designs ensure there is a jewel to represent one’s feelings or thoughts. It’s part of Pandora’s ethos as the world’s largest jewellery brand: hand-finished pieces, crafted from quality materials, with a little something special for everyone.

For Valentine’s this year, the jewellery brand has come up with a number of new designs themed around hearts and padlocks. The heart is a timeless symbol—a sweet motif that immediately and clearly represents love; padlocks, too, are a time-honoured way to symbolise commitment to a sweetheart. These motifs, say creative directors Francesco Terzo and Filippo Ficarelli, are a “reminder that we each hold our own key, with a path, a future and a love that’s meant just for us”.

Simple and timeless as the heart and padlock themes are, they see a range of interesting, stylish and fresh expressions across the brand’s various collections. Pandora Timeless, for instance, takes these on with a classic look, through halo pavé designs set with cubic zirconia and coloured crystals. The heart figures in this collection as romantic, sparkling rings, earrings and pendants, with single- or triple-heart designs.

The Pandora Essence line, meanwhile, embodies a more modernist sensibility. Its sculptural designs, crafted from 14-carat gold-plated 925 silver, have smooth curves that give it a sensuous quality. The heart shape has been worked into rings, earrings and pendants with an organic shape—a design style that is right on trend this season. Dainty and sparkling or modernist in the metal, these varied styles suit different tastes. Creative directors Terzo and Ficarelli describe the array as “celebrating what makes us different and finding connection in the beauty of that uniqueness.”

It’s also impossible, of course, not to mention the famous charms when talking about Pandora. The timing is fortuitous: charm jewels are back in the spotlight as a leading trend this season. Pandora offers two styles of charm bracelets: its signature snake chain bracelet that pioneered the collecting concept to begin with, and the chain link style from the Pandora ME collection. Charms, which are certainly in Pandora’s wheelhouse, offer some of the most imaginative Valentine’s styles. Think opalescent details that add an iridescent touch, vivid Murano glass with an artful look of Venetian craft, and bright, colourful ceramic with plenty of cheer and charm.

What’s especially thoughtful is how Pandora has designed its charms especially so there are spaces to engrave a personalised message. Keys and hearts come with polished, clear surfaces to make space for an engraving. The most charming might be the envelope charm, in gold-plated silver and dotted on the outside with a cubic zirconia, that actually opens up as an envelope would. Inside, a space to plant a secret message of love—a personal touch that transforms a charm into a keepsake.
