Longtime followers of Olafur Eliasson’s work know that the Berlin-based artist has been making the ungraspable tangible since 1997. Internationally renowned for his environmental efforts, Eliasson has spent the past three decades articulating the importance of man’s engagement with nature through captivating works that play with organic elements of the earth.
By challenging the way that we inhabit and interact with the natural world, Eliasson’s wide-ranging works leave an indelible mark on both the mind and the heart. Every installation, painting and sculpture created by the Icelandic-Danish artist is guilefully immersive, encouraging audiences to participate rather than simply appreciate his recreated ecosystems.
This year, the visionary artist debuts his first major solo exhibition in Southeast Asia at Singapore Art Museum. Featuring 17 awe-inspiring works—from temporal fragments of melting glaciers to seismographic testimonies of the works’ journey from Berlin to Singapore—Your Curious Journey is a groundbreaking survey of Eliasson’s oeuvre.
With a talent for shaping ephemeral materials such as light, wind, fog and water into tangible wonders, Olafur Eliasson compels his audience to palpably experience the invisible elements of their surroundings. Each installation reflects his three-decade-long commitment to raising ecological awareness, inviting viewers to explore the intricate relationship between humans and the environment firsthand.
In line with our commitment to lead cultural dialogues in Singapore and the region, Vogue Singapore has partnered with Singapore Art Museum to unveil Olafur Eliasson’s Your Curious Journey with an opening party, complete with hypnotic DJ sets and elegant canapés catered by The Plattering Co.
From the moment they enter the exhibition space, visitors are immediately greeted by Yellow Corridor (1997), where a row of mono-frequency yellow lights illuminate the passageway, inviting an uncanny somatic experience in which each guest’s unique first-person perspective completes the experience of Eliasson’s work.
“I can see that you are part of the art installation,” observes Bettina von Schlippe, publisher of Vogue Singapore, in her opening remarks, as she sets the stage for the immersive experience alongside Singapore Art Museum curator Angelica Ong under the striking yellow glare.
