If you’re looking for a summer bop, NewJeans has surely just about delivered. Behind electrifying hits ‘OMG’ and ‘Hype Boy’, the K-pop quintet that’s shot to stardom since their debut last July have just dropped two eclectic music videos for their pre-release singles ‘New Jeans’ and ‘Super Shy’—straight out of their Get Up sophomore EP. Whilst the rest of the six-track album is slated for release only come 21 July, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein are already joyfully ringing in their first-year debut anniversary with a welcome triptych of their familiar lilting vocals, a sprightly mood and highly-choreographed performances.
First came the music video for ‘New Jeans’, which is a visual entropy of the group’s collaboration with popular animated series The Powerpuff Girls and to sum it up: it’s sugar, spice and everything nice. And just 13 hours later, a 200-second effort sees ‘Super Shy’ come to life—with the band of teenage girls whizzing through a quaint European town, dancing around to the swinging pop track amidst its curious dwellers. The vibe is euphoric and effortless, its cadence addictive and pulsating.
But what we noticed right from the get go? The dazzling visual delivery across the board—made possible only by the kaleidoscopic assortment of hair and make-up moments the girls carry throughout the dance-led music video. Hitting a sweet spot between Y2K nostalgia and the youthful freshness of one’s teenage years, the five sing of their giddy feelings—all whilst wearing candy-coloured highlights in their hair, splotches of under-eye blush and some chromatic manicures to beat. As we gear up for the release of the full mini-album, spy the most memorable beauty moments from NewJeans’s ‘Super Shy’ MV, below.

Cottagecore
Since their debut, NewJeans has consistently leaned into the playfully fresh aesthetic befitting of their ages—and ‘Super Shy’ is no different. As Danielle rides into the quaint town on her bicycle, she emanates the softness of what one might remember cottagecore to be: ponytail braids, ribbons in her hair and glimmering strokes of pastel shimmers on her lids.

Blonde transformation
If we’re talking transformations, it seems Hanni’s blonde moment in this music video will be one to remember. With her now-graduated tresses left to swing along with her as she ‘waacks’ away, her metallic talons are also not to be missed—the latter subtly teamed up with a single sticker embellishment on her mien.

3 / 7
Skunk chic
If a skunk could ever be chic. Youngest member Hyein proves she’s always been a cool girl—sporting the now-trendy skunk stripes in her blonde highlights.

4 / 7
Blooming innocence
Who better than sweetheart Haerin to pull off a look that floats like innocence all through her dance moves? Amidst her glassy floral-shaped earrings and Y2K-esque hair clips, a single daffodil accent marks the outer corner of her eyes for that added botanical touch.

Barbie dream
It’s pink all over for Hanni’s look at the supermarket. From the strawberry streaks in her hair to the pearlescent crush of pastels on her lids through her under eyes and those noteworthy swirling fuschia talons, the 18-year-old is a dreamy initiation into Barbiecore.

Sporty slick
The moment this Danielle walked out onto the basketball court in the music video, we knew it would be one NewJeans’s fans—the Bunnies—would be talking about for ages to come. Wearing her ponytail high and slicked all the way back, she looks every bit the cool, sporty cheerleader worthy of envy.

Tone-on-tone
When it comes to an effortless capture of beauty, it seems no one can quite trump oldest member Minji on that front. With her new lavender highlights, she carries the signature NewJeans style: a tone-on-tone look as her blushing mien, pinked peepers and glossy lip are all brought together to create one smooth, continuous look. Special mention to that butterfly accent on her left cheek, of course.
