The trajectory of a K-Pop group’s career can be easily charted with several specific milestones. Post-debut, the natural progression comprises international tours; ambassadorship opportunities; and for the ones who have catapulted into global markets, solo ventures. From a business standpoint, it is as sound a decision as any. Not only does it allow artistes to fully develop their own individual sound, it also enables the building of a dedicated fan base should said talents decide to diversify and attempt other artistic pursuits. It is a strategy that has, insofar, worked for idols in the vein of BTS, Red Velvet, and Blackpink—with every single member of the girl-group quartet having released solo projects. And while Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa had dropped their tracks in 2018 and 2021 respectively, it is only in 2023 that Jisoo decided to enter the fray with her solo album, ‘ME.’
Much can be said about the title track, ‘Flower’, that was released with an accompanying MV on 31 March. The melody features a plucky blend of violins paired with swooping vocals from Jisoo; a vivid and rich tableau matched with stunning visuals bolstered largely by an array of jaw-dropping hair and make-up looks.
