For fall/winter 2022, Michael Kors took cues from its showstopping fall/winter 2021 show in New York City in April of last year. For the unitiated: the 63-look line-up was presented in the dynamic theatre district and drew inspiration from the cornerstones of Broadway. The real sentiment, however, was the collective urge to feel the buzz of nightlife again. Think: black-tie glamour, revered supermodels such as Naomi Campbell and Carolyn Murphy as well as club-appropriate make up looks—lively, unabashed and ready to be paraded about town.
This season, Kors continued to push for a sense of normalcy and joy once again. He translated this through a bevy of simple, tone-on-tone looks that wouldn’t look out of place on the everyday urbanite. On Paloma Elsesser was a calf-length grey coat layered over a darker-hued ribbed dress; on Natasha Poly was a camel jacket delicately placed atop a nude sequinned dress and on Sherry Shi was a checkered co-ord paired with a ribbed turtleneck. The air of ease was endless, even when Gigi and Bella Hadid walked out in similar glittery gowns.
Inspired by Marilyn Monroe, the collection also featured a standout piece in the form of a clutch coat—which as its name suggests, comes together to a fold instead of a button or zipper closure. Styled with accessories such as Michael Kors’ purses and full-length boots, the double-face cashmere coat was presented in nude, neon orange, yellow and grey. A variation in faux fur proved a dressier option for nights out, but even with all of the statement pieces imbued into the collection, the brand’s take on the city was effortless all round.
