Max Mara SS25
Show review in a line: Summer-ready staples with an unwavering commitment to Max Mara’s DNA
Designer: Ian Griffiths
Location: Palazzo del Ghiaccio
The vision: Max Mara is all about maintaining the status quo, but in new and imaginative ways. For creative director Ian Griffiths’ spring/summer 2025 showing in Milan, the brand embraced a simple set, furnished with the promise of summer-ready staples. That’s not to say this simplicity didn’t come with its fair share of magic, however. This collection was all about celebrating the beautiful precision that defines a Max Mara piece. “Max Mara finds inspiration in the discipline which requires its students to believe that a cat is simultaneously alive and dead, and explores the mind-bending world of irrational, imaginary, and transcendental numbers,” shares the brand. It is in this very breath that one realises these equations flourish in some of Max Mara’s most iconic pieces.
The vibe: One of the more star-studded model line-ups graced the show, with Max Mara’s latest creations worn by Irina Shayk, Liu Wen, Vittoria Ceretti, and more. The beauty of an Ian Griffiths presentation lies in its wearability, which permeated the room. Showgoers were dressed with the same ease emanating from the runway: casual, cool, and comfortable.
What to shop from the collection: For the brand’s Milan showing today, Griffiths nailed it with accessories. Leather sandals in black and brown anchored house classics such as camel trench coats, shirt dresses, and shorts. The collection’s summer-ready essentials came in the form of leather pouches slung around waists and one-shoulder dresses with cut-outs. As for what we’re adding to our wardrobe? The sleek yet striking maxi dresses with sensual cut-outs, as well as the leather sandals. Griffiths’ vision has versatility at its heart, providing staples for any occasion.
Prada SS25
Show review in a line: The meeting of the past, present and future at Prada–complete with some of the brand’s milestone designs
Designers: Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada
Location: La Fondazione Prada
The vision: Trust Prada to pull off an almost undetected retrospective while introducing soon-to-be favourites. The Prada Odyssey for SS25 was a smorgasbord of greatest hits curated by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. Given the brand’s track record for cult classics, this was a symphonic masterpiece to witness. Hosted at La Fondazione Prada, arguably one of the season’s biggest shows, it called showgoers from all over the world to a baby-blue satin-drenched set with winding seats. Given the tactile experience that is a Prada show—think sight, sound, and smell—it only seemed fitting that the runway almost intertwined with the seating.
The vibe: Over the past few years, the iconic Italian brand has attracted equally high-profile brand ambassadors, and this show was no exception. Throngs of fans surrounded the venue in anticipation of South Korean boy band Enhypen, as well as stars like Karina of Aespa and NCT’s Jaehyun. It’s also only at a Prada show that one sees the melding of longtime and new collectors, all decked out in their favourite pieces, all of which transcend time.
What to shop from the collection: Prada aficionados revelled in the references peppered throughout the SS25 show, with many recreations appearing in the brand’s footwear rotation. Towering brogues made their resurgence, this time in striking red and purple; brown leather cross-strap sandals were a nostalgic nod to the past; towering block heels with panelled strips came in baby pink and grey, drawing inspiration from their bronze predecessor, while blocked Mary Janes appeared in brown. On the clothing front, designs appeared in metallics and leather: skirts with rings, more skirts with cut-outs, mirrored dresses, and bold pops of colour. On the accessories front, a playful offering appeared in the form of alien-esque visors and sunglasses. In a universe that favours either the past or the present, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons remind us that inspiration is often found somewhere in between.
