Synonymous with horseback riding, Longchamp has long been lauded for its timeless design and sanguine vision for clothes. The house’s name and brand codes take after the storied Hippodrome Paris Longchamp, which has been attracting horse racing enthusiasts since 1857.
For Longchamp’s autumn/winter 2023 collection, creative director Sophie Delafontaine looked back to the house’s equestrian history and traditions. Fittingly, the looks were presented at a Hippodrome, with some of Longchamp’s most trusted patrons along with horse jockeys and owners recreating the adrenaline experienced during a race day.

The showing started with models who emerged in casual-chic ensembles that were sporty while exuding femininity. There were camouflage prints mixed with structured parka jackets, shearling blousons and quilted flannels in forgiving silhouettes and durable materials to withstand the most volatile of weathers. Delafontaine exhibited her love for tasteful layering, as it allows wearers to stay comfortable and warm in chilly weather while remaining chic and casual.
The garments took their inspiration from traditional racing silks— worn by the jockeys—which resulted in bold colours and vibrant patterns that individually stood out. Elaborating on the ideation process, Delafontaine shared the fascination behind working with racecourse professionals and their significance to the maison’s history. She looked to rekindle the burning love shared between fashion fans and experts of the sport, embodied by the core values of passion and authenticity.

One can also notice the attention to detail through the accessories, which were reimagined in ways that fit the current style zeitgeist. Rain boots were emblazoned with a supersized Longchamp logo, their silhouette reminiscent of traditional riding boots. Customers can customise their pair with an assortment of leather buckles that are available in a myriad of colourways, all referencing bridles and racing stables.
The maison also brought back its signature Box-Trot bag in new shades of parakeet green and cobalt blue, injecting a youthful spirit to this collection. Available in hearty canvas or smooth calfskin leather, it comes in several sizes, all finished with a robust strap for easy mobility.
The day concluded in high spirits, with the collection’s buzzing energy and hopeful vibe sending the message loud and clear that Longchamp’s legacy is here to stay.
