First introduced during its cruise 2020 collection, the iconic Gucci Horsebit 1955 is the perfect mix of decades-old house codes and contemporary design. A reimagined staple following in the footsteps of its predecessor from over six decades ago, the series of bags feature similar lines and forms as the original, albeit refurbished for the modern woman.
Instantly recognisable by its signature double ring and bar design, the Gucci Horsebit 1955’s emblem was initially seen on a pair of loafers in 1953. Two years later, it was used on a handbag for the first time. The Gucci Horsebit 1955 line pays homage to the brand’s equestrian heritage, and offers the trademark design in handbags, totes, bucket bags and shoulder bags. Its gold-toned horsebit hardware remains one of the most recognisable brand motifs to date.

The handbag variation boasts an extremely feminine and chic silhouette which sublimely combines elegance and functionality. It features a spacious interior allowing for neat organisation and the adjustable shoulder strap in supple calf leather provides comfort when the bag is carried cross-body or on one shoulder. The top handle allows the bag to be handheld on the go and a sizeable offering of monochromatic colours, ranging from soothing cream to shades of gingerbread brown and jet black, provide perfect palettes to build an outfit around.
For those looking for a more casual option, the shoulder bag proves the perfect alternative. Presented with a small flap closure, its leather shoulder straps come with brushed gold snap buttons that allow the wearer to customise its length. Both variations come in a multitude of sizes, and are available in either a monogrammed canvas body or supple calf leather.

With a new campaign for the Horsebit 1955 unveiling this month, all eyes are on Gucci. What can we expect from a new release? Perhaps we will see bold new colours and different materials, or possibly a peek into a new silhouette that further pushes house codes while retaining the brand’s DNA. Regardless, at the hands of Gucci’s masterful artisans, the craftsmanship and innovation are sure to be one for the ages.
