As summer approaches and our minds wander to the possibilities of adventures yet to come, Loro Piana offers a timely outlet for escapism with a spring/summer 2023 collection deeply rooted in Italy’s idyllic countryside. Think fluid fabrics, supple leathers, and timeless tailoring cast in an earthy palette of natural tones; commemorating the brand’s alluring Italian heritage. While imbued with a sophistication and elegance that has become synonymous with the brand’s legacy, a sense of freedom and gaiety are not amiss in its latest collection. Contrasting silhouettes meld together with textural fabrics, with the end result being an interesting interplay of romantic feminine ease coupled with the steadfastness of masculine energy.

Picture stepping into a retro-convertible, cruising along the winding cypress-bordered lanes of Tuscany. You don tailored trousers, layers of knits in neutral shades, a tweed blazer, and a sport cap—a vision of enveloping yet structured shapes that evoke a sense of knowing no constraints. On long balmy summer nights, you slip into a flowy kimono dress crafted from silk crêpe fabric with refined ribbing details around the neckline, an accent that is echoed in the bells of your sleeves. The ultimate summer dress. Ideal for sipping aperitivos on the veranda.
A standout accessory from this collection is the Bale bag, the inspiration of which harks back to the beginnings of Loro Piana. In the late 1970s, the Loro Piana family embarked on a mission in search of the best raw materials nature has to offer. This led them to the highlands of Mongolia, where they discovered cashmere of the finest calibre. To this day, local nomadic shepherds continue to deliver yarn in bales to the house’s spinning mill in Piedmont to be transformed into ready-to-wear collections.

This aptly named bag bears textures reminiscent of the fibre bales of Mongolia. Rendered out of supple calfskin and available in a natural smooth-grain or tumbled finish, the bag continues the collection’s narrative of masculine femininity. Clean lines give the accessory an undeniable presence, while the malleable nature of its soft construction lends it an effortless fluidity. Its supple build and adjustable shoulder straps also make it an ideal bag to pair with every look no matter the occasion. It is available in two sizes and an array of colours, from warm tan, navy blue and kummel to seasonal shades such as dark cerise and Candoglia marble.
