With New York fashion week done and dusted, all eyes shift to London for the next leg of the fall/winter 2024 season. The week started out with a bang, as cult favourites Molly Goddard and Simone Rocha kicked things off with undiluted showings that continued to push the design envelope within their universes. Richard Quinn explored contemporary evening wear, with a symphony of sequinned gowns, floral catsuits and embellished bridal looks that melded innovation with good old-fashioned dressmaking. Fashion’s favourite trailblazer Jonathan Anderson took an unsurprising route, sending chunky knits and bedroom slippers down the runway, further amplifying the beloved granddad core that has recently pervaded the runway and red carpet.
Outside the shows, it seemed that most attendees were dressed for comfort, perhaps to combat the temperamental London weather that seemed to be year-round. Tailored outerwear in the form of oversized wool coats and sharp blazers were aplenty, paired with denim bottoms and maxi dresses. There were cropped jackets with intricate cutouts and bulbous sleeves, as well as parka coats that featured shimmery gemstone detailing. Remnants of the beloved coquette core trend were still present here and there, from a subtle bow decorating one’s garment to gleaming pearl accessories that finished several ensembles.
With half of the schedule yet to show—including legacy house Burberry under Matthieu Blazy—there is still much to anticipate from the city. Below, peruse the best of London fashion week street style through the lens of Phil Oh.
