10-word show review: Optical illusions and full body texture make for bold statements.

The vision: Given Jonathan Anderson’s tongue-in-cheek take on design, the location for the Loewe fall/winter 2023 show veered in a considerably more classic direction for the brand. Hosted at the Esplanade Saint Louis, guests walked into a stark white space punctuated by primary-coloured boxes, a sight similar to last season’s show space. The arena was slowly infiltrated by the house’s fan-favourite ambassadors, South Korean girl group Nmixx, South Korean idol Lee Tae-Yong, Irish actor Jamie Dornan and supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Signature style: Fashion fans are sure to remember Loewe spring/summer 2023’s viral anthurium flower pieces, from maxi dresses adorned with the emblem to pieces astutely accented with it as well. While supermodel Emily Ratajkowski donned the runway bustier to watch the show, the theme for Loewe fall/winter 2023 seemed to continue, with a slight sway towards animals instead. Anderson’s affinity with optical illusion continued in the form of silk slip dresses that boasted fur-like detailing but what was even more interesting was a juncture of skillful colour-blocking that played a similar trick on the eye. The most striking looks of the collection, however, came in the form of head-to-toe feather-encrusted separates that made one want to reach out far into the distance to touch it.
What to shop from the collection: Touted Anderson’s take on “anti-virality”—or “de-influencing”, perhaps—this is a decidedly more wearable and muted collection, with all the cornerstones of what makes Loewe so exciting and thrilling to watch in the first place. Personally, I am all for pieces that reveal details upon closer look, and the line up’s all-leather pieces (Looks 37, 38, and 39) are particularly dazzling for that very reason. If you’re looking to buy into accessories, then it seems as though the maxi-maxi-maxi bag is back as seen in Look 11. Perfection.
