When it comes to beauty inspo, a quick scroll on our social media feeds would proffer a bedazzling line-up. From multi-winged liners to bejewelled lips, one can easily glean ideas for an experimental moment. And what these make-up looks have in common? Often, a taut and lifted mien—stemmed from a foolproof base that ensures the final look remains snatched, while superseding any beauty fad that might come to pass. Beauty gurus and experts would call it the instant “facelift”, where the power of a few make-up hacks can work wonders to lift your face, while alleviating tired eyes and dull skin.
So where do we start? Local make-up artist Kat Zhang spills a combination of her beauty techniques, including her recommended products and application tips.
1. Apply concealer at the bottom edge of your face.

The natural way to go about using concealer would typically involve blanketing pesky spots or dark eye circles, but by switching up its placement, you could actually lift your base and give you a faux bone structure. Start the application at the outer corner of your eye and then trace the side of your face from the bottom of your nose as well as upward from the corner of your lips, before blending well. Zhang recommends using Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer.
2. Extend the shape of your eyes
Swap out your eyeliner for a soft pink/brown eyeshadow to extend the shape of your eyes, creating an uplift look. Drawing attention to the outer corner of your eyes, Zhang uses this trick alot in her day-to-day work—with her preferred product being the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk eyeshadow.
3. Blush and highlighter are your best friends
Finish off with the midas combo of a good blush and highlighter. Zhang says: “I love to place the blush and highlight across the cheek more toward the outer of the face, to draw the attention of the eyes from the center up to the side of the face, hence creating a lifting effect.” She suggests opting for Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Blush and Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette.
