Has it been 20 years? As long as I can remember, there hasn’t been a time when I didn’t hear snatches of Taiwanese artist Jay Chou‘s soulful ballads or catchy tunes, whether in school or on the radio. Of course, his remarkable career and musical legacy need no repeating, but I’ll do so anyway: debuting in 2000 with his hit album Jay, the prolific singer-songwriter has since produced 13 more studio albums, out of which four have won Best Mandarin Album at the Golden Melody Awards, and scored another four wins at the World Music Awards.
It’s no wonder then, that with such an incredible 20-year track record, Apple Music is celebrating the King of Mandopop’s career with a specially dedicated super room—the “Jay Chou Universe”—that will give fans the opportunity to look back at Chou’s groundbreaking musical oeuvre.
Here’s what you can expect: the super room on Apple Music will take a deep dive into the singer’s musical universe, taking a look at his influence on pop and rap, to his fascination with imagery, history and fantasy. There will be specially curated playlists, including the Jay Chou Essentials, Jay Chou Next Steps and Jay Chou Deep Cuts. Fans can also revisit the four Apple Music playlists that Chou specially curated for Apple Music, giving a rare glimpse into the music that he listens to personally on the daily.
