Show review in a sentence: A designer’s rebirth, seen through power tailoring inspired by vampire folklore.
Designer: Harry Halim
Location: Thamrin Nine Ballroom
The vibe: It was undoubtedly fitting that the show was held the evening after Halloween, with both the entrance to the ballroom and the venue itself entirely swathed in a sea of blood red strobe lighting. Upon entering the vast show space, attendees were greeted by an opened coffin that stood centre stage, ominous in charm and a hint at the collection to follow. The atmosphere was one filled with mystique and anticipation, as the warm and low bass notes of an organ played hypnotically in the background.
The vision: Titled ‘Redemption’, this spring/summer 2025 collection was all about washing away the past and starting anew. Halim looked to urban legends and gothic styles for inspiration, presenting 36 looks that were dramatic in silhouette and sculptural in shape. Black and red was the colour palette of choice this season, offering a twisted and romantic appeal that has long become the designer’s modus operandi. The pointed shoulder was a recurring detail in the collection—a reference to the wings of a bat or horns of the devil. In typical house fashion, plush fabrics such as velvet, jacquard and vegan leather were used, along with intricate hand-embroidery that spoke to the maison’s craftsmanship. The show also saw a diverse casting that featured several of the country’s biggest stars, from local actor-musician Egi Fedly to film producer Chicco Jerikho.
What to shop from this collection: With tailoring being a cornerstone in the Harry Halim universe, it is hard to go wrong with the supersized floor-length coats and cropped double-breasted suits that will serve as statement options for any wardrobe. In a similar vein, the corseted dresses with intricate leather panelling boast a utilitarian edge and provides any wearer with a form-flattering ensemble that sparks of rebellion. As for accessories, the platform boots with horned heels are a surefire conversation starter, and perhaps a house signature in the seasons to come.
