This morning at 9am SGT, Hollywood’s biggest names gathered in the heart of Beverly Hills at The Beverly Hilton to attend the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards. The event was graced by the likes of cast members, musicians, directors and producers from the most noteworthy films of the year. For instance, both halves of the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon were present, where eyes were locked all night on the battle between two of the highest grossing films of the year. Both films had their own string of nominations, resulting in Barbie clinching two globes, and Oppenheimer five. Looking on were attendees such as Margot Robbie, Ariana Greenblatt, Greta Gerwig, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Christopher Nolan.
Apart from the actual awards won, there’s one other thing that is taken very seriously at the annual Golden Globe Awards—the fashion. From Karen Gillan’s Iris Van Herpen ensemble that resembled scaled paper craft cut-outs to Brie Larson in her elegant Prada dress, this year’s event saw a variety of sartorial highlights ranging from bold statements to sleek minimalism. The play of shapes and fabrics was ever-present in the line up of looks, with features such as the futuristic silhouette of Natasha Lyonne’s gravity-defying gown as well as velvet finishings on key menswear looks taking the spotlight.
As award season begins, the looks from this event just might foreshadow the trends that are set to influence the red carpet rollout for the rest of the year. Here, Vogue Singapore spotlights the three dominating trends from this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Scarlet Red: Florence Pugh
The colour of passion takes centre stage at the Golden Globe Awards 2024. The psychology of red suggests that it’s associated with the feelings of strength and power, and we couldn’t agree more as it elevated a series of head-turning looks worn by the likes of actresses Florence Pugh, Rachel Brosnahan, Julianne Moore and more. A key trend on the spring/summer 2024 runways, it’s a classic shade that has resurfaced throughout the evolution of fashion time and again. A statement is never failed to be made with the hue and it’s here to stay this year.

Sheer Accents: Emma Stone
Sheer dresses and accents have proven to be one of the hottest streetstyle trends as of late and it looks like it’s not going anywhere. The awards event saw no shortage of this trend either as it was implemented in some of the best looks on the carpet. Whether it’s used as a cheeky peek-a-boo element or to add texture and dimension to ensembles, the versatility of this trend makes for endless fashion creations.

Textured Dresses: Margot Robbie
Texture adds depth and visual movement to just about any look. Possibly the most multifaceted styling tool, texture gives tailoring a subtle tactility and adds a sense of detailing to monochromatic ensembles. Richly textured garments have been incorporated into the collections of many brands for their spring/summer 2024 collections as seen on attendees such as Margot Robbie who incorporated it with a tulle boa wrap and Andra Day who sported a Georges Chakra Couture dress with tulle appliqués.
