And we’re off to the races! The 2024 awards season has just kicked off with the 81st Golden Globe Awards, held in Beverly Hills, California. The Globes are typically the first major televised awards ceremony of the year, and offers a bit of a preview of what red carpet styles and trends are percolating and worth looking out for. That, and the Golden Globes, while glitzy and glamorous, tends to be a little more relaxed. We’ve already gotten moments like Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner turning up together, award winner Matthew Macfadyen calling his Succession character, Tom Wambsgans, a “human grease stain”, and Taylor Swift snapping selfies.
On the red carpet style front, though, there appears to be a return to old school glamour. And with it, a fairly subdued taste when it came to jewellery. Statement earrings and necklaces were the leading trend here, worn naturally with a lot of off-shoulder gowns. Dua Lipa took the cake with a truly magnificent archival Tiffany & Co. necklace from 1962 in yellow gold and set with a yellow beryl that played off the gilt embroidery of her Schiaparelli gown.
Interestingly enough, it was some of the men who brought their jewel-accessorising A-game. Barry Keoghan, one of the brightest leading men of the moment, rocked up in a red custom Louis Vuitton suit decorated with pearl accoutrements and a brooch by Tiffany & Co. that referenced a scene from Saltburn, the film he stars in. And it’s not just Keoghan who’s sporting the latest designs from Pharrell Williams’s reign; Colman Domingo paired his custom Nehru jacket suit with an aiguillette by the French maison with more pearl jewellery.
Here, our pick of the most stylish jewellery moments from the 2024 Golden Globes.
