If someone said that Timothée Chalamet is about to become the best chocolate maker in the world, you’d best believe it. He’s also something of a magician…or so he claims himself. Who’s to challenge the man, when he’s now Willy Wonka? In his most mainstream role yet, Chalamet is Wonka in Wonka, the highly-anticipated prequel to one of the most adored screen adaptations of Roald Dahl’s books, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Only from the trailer alone, Chalamet’s Wonka is the younger, happier version of his older self—overflowing with passion as he works towards achieving his lifelong dream: making chocolate.
The timing of the film’s release couldn’t be any better. Set to hit theatres worldwide this week, it’s a magical, atmospheric pick that’s primed for the holiday season—and suffice to say, fans of Chalamet will at least have one screen number by the actor to look forward to by the end of 2023. Yet of course, what would a film release be without its accompanying press tour? Blockbuster film or not, there’s also no question that you can always count on Chalamet’s sartorial codes on the red carpet (and some extremely adorable moments with his co-stars Hugh Grant and Olivia Coleman) to dial up on the shine of the show.
This Wonka season, the style savant has been vacillating between kaleidoscopic ensembles, shirtless suiting and a great deal of stomping boots that seem more apt for his role in another delayed blockbuster rather. In Tokyo, he first stepped out in a glossy lavender number from Prada, instantly setting the tone for the press tour that was to come. His appearances since have included a touch of Alexander McQueen’s draping, a welcome splash of magenta courtesy of Tom Ford and a custom Cartier necklace designed like a candylicious dream. See the best of Timothée Chalamet’s press tour looks so far, all below.

Timothée Chalamet in Prada and Bottega Veneta
Chalamet kicked off the Wonka press tour in Japan—where he stepped out in a glossy lavender two-piece ensemble from Prada, better paired with a pair of Bottega Veneta boots. Zoom in, and you’ll also notice the shining Cartier jewels adorning his neckline.

Timothée Chalamet in Avellano
If there was someone Chalamet was channeling here, would it not have been Neo from The Matrix? This floor-length Avellano coat was certainly not what we were expecting for his touchdown at Narita International Airport in Tokyo for the Wonka tour, but guess the sci-fi buff within lives on.

Timothée Chalamet in Junya Watanabe
It’s clear Chalamet found a home when in Japan. For his trip to the studio of video game designer Hideo Kojima, the actor swerves away from his Wonka character—and looks rather the part of one Paul Atreides. Soon enough, they say.

Timothée Chalamet in Alexander McQueen
Shirtless he may be, but still looking as suave as ever in this draped Alexander McQueen blazer look—paired with some combat boots that gave him a stylistic edge.

Timothée Chalamet in Tom Ford and Cartier
The star of the show? That glittering custom necklace on Chalamet’s décolletage for sure. Cartier’s candy-coloured masterpiece is worn with the actor’s second shirtless suit moment, a magenta pick from Tom Ford’s spring/summer 2024 collection.

Timothée Chalamet in Tom Ford
For his second Tom Ford look for the season, the actor dons a gold, shimmering mesh and black trousers—as if to emulate all that golden ticket magic from the original film.

Timothée Chalamet in Tom Ford
Chalamet cranked up the shine even further with his third press tour look that continued his Tom Ford streak, as he hit up the Paris Wonka premiere in a shimmery beaded tank top from the brand’s women’s collection.

Timothée Chalamet in Tom Ford
The beaming star strikes out in a Tom Ford suit once again—only this time he isn’t shirtless. Instead, he chose to don a dark mocha leather ensemble…which couldn’t be more apt for the chocolate connoisseur.
