It’s hard to believe two years have passed since the glazed doughnut nail first assumed its reign over the Internet—and our manicures. Courtesy of a certain Mrs Bieber’s chrome digits, as seen at the Met Gala back in 2022, the pearlescent nail look was instantly ubiquitous on TikTok while also moving offline to become the manicure du jour. It has remained as such ever since.
L.A. nail artist Zola Ganzorigt was responsible for creating the viral look, and revealed via TikTok that she used an OPI gel base, colour and top coat, finished off with a dusting of chrome powder, to achieve its signature ‘glaze’. And while this original version combined sheer neutrals for a milky effect, the glazed doughnut nail has since trended in a variety of hues and degrees of translucence.

Against a backdrop of lightning-fast beauty trends—many of which have also been food-inspired—glazed doughnut nails stand out for their enduring status.
