Get ready with Stephanie Hsu for the Next in Vogue Gala 2024
26 October 2024
Watch as the 'Joy Ride' star takes Vogue Singapore through her definition of Les Enfants Terribles: The Art of Rebellion while attempting some Singlish along the way
In about an hour, Stephanie Hsu is due to arrive on the black carpet of the Next in Vogue Gala 2024 and she has a pretty vision in mind. One involving a pop of pink, a smattering of roses and a giant bow tied to the name of Giambattista Valli. Some can argue it’s coquette, but for the Joy Ride actress, it falls right in line with the theme of the evening: Les Enfants Terribles: The Art of Rebellion. Against her natural style inclinations that lean edgy, she’s opting for something sweet and feminine to defy her personal codes instead.
Clad in a bathrobe in The Capitol Kempinski suite, Hsu is currently deliberating on smiley faces for her talons with her manicurist Ann. So far, her maiden visit in Singapore has been pretty eventful to say the least; from a riveting panel during Vogue Conversations at Next in Vogue to spending the previous day indulging in chicken rice and various soups at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre. Plus, the jet leg has also mostly worn off; all signs point to a delightful evening ahead.

Riding off a successful run with Everything Everywhere All At Once and Joy Ride, she lights up while speaking of her new upcoming series Laid, where Hsu will also serve as executive producer for the first time. “I think for me, making anything is so challenging. If I’m making something, I put all of me into it and so I really want to know why the story is being told before I throw all my weight into it. I think artists have an amazing opportunity and responsibility to start conversations and create new narrative. In a world with so much content, I really want to know why each story is being told,” the actress contemplates on her career so far.
On her look for the night, she eagerly reveals a Giambattista Valli haute couture frock that she discovered during her recent appearance at Paris Fashion Week. She loved it so much that she packed it with her all the way to Singapore, to grace the Next in Vogue gala. Above, watch as Hsu gets ready for the glitzy evening while looking back on her favourite local foods, experiences in our part of town and what Next in Vogue means to her.
