The Lunar New Year is a time for fresh starts. For many who celebrate this joyous occasion, it is also the time to shop for updated looks and to spice one’s wardrobe up. With the traditional belief that wearing new clothes in auspicious colours will bring in prosperity and good fortune, many luxury houses have certainly taken notice, offering capsule collections that fuse the brand’s identity with recognisable motifs. Ferragamo’s latest capsule collection is no exception, celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year with the house’s own ready-to-wear styles and iconic accessories.
With 2023 being the year of the rabbit, the demure animal is the focus of this capsule collection. A symbol of mercy, elegance and beauty, it is also looked upon as the luckiest animal in the zodiac. Its eyes offer a sense of tranquility and assurance, while still maintaining a level of sophistication and allure. Old prints of a rabbit’s eye in macro are rendered in high-impact graphics and imprinted on the garments and accessories, an ode to the house’s savoir-faire and attention to detail.
Combining the traditional Chinese celebrations with the house’s aspirations for a propitious and peaceful new year, the capsule collection designed by creative director Maximilian Davis sees an assortment of oriental clothes, bags and shoes. In an auspicious colour palette of sprightly red, blue and whites, all the pieces pay homage to the tradition of wearing ‘festive colours’ during this season. Scarves made of silk foulards and satin sets feature prints of a rabbit amidst peach trees and bamboo leaves, too.
Monochromatic options are also available, such as the leather sneakers with perforated motifs and a fluid blouse sitting neatly over a pleated skirt. Cotton buttoned shirts and T-shirts are imprinted with the eye of the rabbit. Looking for something dressier? A city jacket, crewneck sweater and relaxed trousers all offer additional statement options for a festive ensemble.
An array of supple leather accessories from the Gancini buckle belt to signature carryalls like the Trifolio and Studio bags accompany the ready-to-wear pieces, topped with other bespoke small leather goods. For those with a fondness for the exotic, a delectable select of eel-skin iterations with palladium-finished details complete the collection, showcasing the label’s superior quality and craftsmanship. Seamlessly intertwining Ferragamo’s codes with its vision for a prosperous and hopeful future, this capsule collection should be a delight to many, reminding them of a joyous and festive time with their loved ones.
