The clock is ticking fastidiously in the City of Light. As the world anxiously awaits this year’s Olympics in Paris, athletes from all around the world are slowly winding down in their rigorous training regimes, now that we’re edging close to race day. And from the looks of it, the capital of France has also made its necessary preparations. In a historic move, the Seine has been declared pollution-free, just in time to host several open water swimming events during the Games. This year’s iteration will also see a brand new sport in its lineup: with breaking making its debut, as part of the Summer Olympics’ first competitive dance category.
But beyond the pragmatics, runs a sartorial undercurrent that has been building up since the fashion capital was revealed to be the host for this year’s Olympics. Tenniscore aside, we’ve seen a feverish spike for jerseys as well as the well-deserved buzz on Team Mongolia’s intricate uniforms by Ulaanbaatar-based fashion label Michel & Amazonka. Out of the parameters of official merchandise, it seems our favourite fashion brands and designers have too, been bitten by the sporting bug. After all, there’s no better place than Paris to unveil a limited capsule.
Fittingly, Lacoste looked back to the origins—naming its eight-piece collection as Paris 1924, citing the year where Paris last held the Olympics. In a cheeky revision, Marine Serre rejigged her signature crescent moon motif to reflect the Olympics’ logo of interlaced rings. Fans of the ballet sneakers trend can also look forward to yet another stunning collaboration between Cecilie Bahnsen and Asics, to be launched during the Olympics in Paris.
