If there’s anything the fashion cognoscenti has made sure of, it’s the longevity of the balletcore trend that has made its rounds from the runway to our social media fodder. But within that hyper-fem fixation, is a certain sporty upgrade. The ballet sneaker that not only sparks a duality but blends harmoniously with the reigning trend. Is ballet an art or a sport? Well it seems it can be both.
Simone Rocha, whose eponymous brand first introduced the ballet sneaker on the spring/summer 2021 runway and has since then released several ethereal iterations of the hybrid design, described the ballet sneaker as “a collision and a contrast”, which explains why ballet sneakers are less hesitant to draw from the more dramatic elements of ballet shoes—satin, ribbons, and criss-cross lace—than other balletcore creations. Still, they include the most important nuances, while adding in the chunky silhouette of a sneaker. Additionally, Rocha emphasises the hybrid shoe’s ergonomic nature, for while professional ballerinas do not have that luxury, bearers of ballet sneakers can have it all—style and comfort.
Following Rocha’s creations, there has been more than plenty of varied choices from the fashion circuit. From dainty lace-ups to pastel pink performance wear, Vogue Singapore rounds up the most stylish ballet sneakers to sport this season.
