The fashion industry has had its fair share of screen time in Hollywood. The latest addition to the rolling list of fictional portrayals of the fashion world is Emily in Paris, Netflix’s new rom-com series which premieres today. Starring Lily Collins as the titular Emily, the series follows Emily’s Parisian adventures as she unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris at a French luxury marketing firm.
Shot on location in Paris, it’s Sex and the City meets The Devil Wears Prada, but updated with all the idiosyncrasies of today—from social media to biting parodies of the fashion industry. “I was looking at brands like Supreme and the old school couture houses,” said Darren Star, the creator of Sex and the City and Emily in Paris. “The fashion industry has changed so much during COVID, but even when we filmed this last year, there was still that question of ‘what is fashion?’, and it was something I wanted to explore a little bit in this series because France is historically the home of high fashion.”
If you loved the iconic costumes of Carrie Bradshaw and Andy Sachs, you’ll be thrilled to know that award-winning costume designer behind those characters, Patricia Field, reprises her styling chops in Emily in Paris. “Emily is bright, bold, a little bit obvious and fun and her outfits reflect just that. She mixes colours, prints, styles and designs—that’s very much her aesthetic,” Collins told Vogue. “She’s not afraid to take risks and chances in her professional and romantic life, and her outfits speak to that as well.”
From her unabashed love for colour to her envy-worthy collection of bucket hats, Vogue breaks down some of Emily’s most memorable looks in Paris.

Parisian at heart
It may be a faux pas to wear a beret in Paris, but Emily isn’t shy about her love for the city—channel your inner Emily by opting for a houndstooth one like she is here, teamed with a pop of bubblegum pink.
