Glimmerings of history and romance trickle throughout the idyllic landscapes of Scotland, where Dior’s Cruise 2025 collection unfurls like a page from a fairy tale. This season, Maria Grazia Chiuri casts a spotlight on both the rich heritage of this poetic setting and the maison’s enduring relationship with the Scottish countryside.

Chiuri takes us on a journey through time, sparked by Scotland’s powerful symbols and marrying them with the house’s illustrious past. Medieval millefleurs motifs, inspired by the thistle and unicorn—emblems of Scottish lore—are delicately placed throughout the collection. A notable homage comes through the inspiration from Mary, Queen of Scots, with pieces reminiscent of her wardrobe. The range also features images from the maison’s spring/summer 1995 collection and behind-the-scenes, adorning selected designs.

Textures, patterns and materials in this collection bring Chiuri’s vision to life; showcasing wool knits, armour-like bodices, fur-trimmed jackets and billowing outerwear. Sculptural minidresses, with their armour-like skirts, hint at the strength and grace of past warriors, while sparkling knits—resembling glistening chain mail—add an alluring touch. The line-up’s nostalgic silhouettes, cinched at the waist, evoke a regal air, while Elizabethan puff sleeves on sheer blouses make a powerfully structured statement. Lace and velvet—delicate yet strong—pay tribute to Mary Stuart’s wardrobe, while the mesmerising contrast of sportswear and soft, creamy fabrics draws attention. And as always, Dior’s commitment to quality is paramount. The luxury brand worked closely with Harris Tweed, crafting lush woollens, and developed a special tartan for the collection in rich tones of violet and red, reminiscent of the Scottish landscape.

In terms of colour, the palette is dense and moody, filled with greys, blacks, deep reds and rich greens. Tartan, a quintessential Scottish symbol, plays a prominent role in the collection, appearing in diverse styles—blanket-like shawls fastened with belts and harnesses, tailored skirt suits with fringed hems and long skirts featuring parachute accents. A notable collaboration with Scottish designer Samantha McCoach of Le Kilt reimagines the classic pattern in a mossy green tone, reflecting the rugged beauty of the country’s scenic grounds.

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s love for storytelling and history shines once again in this collection—a romantic, fairy tale-like ode to Scotland’s castles, landscapes and time-honoured customs, all through the lens of the house’s modish charm, allowing the Dior legacy to resonate in an entirely new light.
