Elevator pitch
IHG’s InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit might not be Bangkok’s first InterContinental property, but its stellar location—in the heart of Thonglor, one of the city’s most vibrant neighbourhoods—sets it apart instantly. Enter the hotel and you’ll be greeted by lavish furniture and upscale design, while a quiet sense of place is introduced through the use of Tor-mue, an intricate hand weaving technique traditional to Thailand.
This new property reflects InterContinental’s recent brand evolution, which sees the hospitality group moving towards more guest-centric features tailored to the modern luxury traveller. This begins in common spaces—such as a dedicated concierge gallery where you’ll get to tap on the staff’s cultural knowledge to plan a customised itinerary—but also extends into every aspect of your stay.

The stay
The hotel offers a total of 241 rooms, the most comfortable of which are the suites—with their spacious living rooms, cosy bedrooms and the comfort of a bath with a walk-in rain shower. Luxurious amenities from Byredo complete the experience, setting you up for utmost comfort after spending a day out in Bangkok’s brutal summer.

Here is where you are first introduced to InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit’s Sleep Well programme, designed to help travellers adopt healthy night-time rituals. Each guest receives access to Timeshifter, a jet lag app which uses the latest circadian science to help users adjust quickly to new time zones. But even if you’re flying in from closer by, good sleep is priceless in making the most of your holiday. To that end, an in-room sleep kit includes a pillow and pillow spray menu, calming ambient lighting and a bedtime tea set. An iHome PowerClock Glow in each room uses light and sound therapy to further enhance your shut-eye. Waking up to breathtaking city views through the floor to ceiling windows in your suite gets you ready for the day ahead.

The itinerary
As a frequent traveller to Bangkok, what I look for in a hotel here can be summed up in one word: location. I want easy access to the city centre while still having the freedom to explore my neighbourhood, and InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit strikes this balance perfectly. Chic cafes (we recommend Cos Café, which serves up refreshing fruit-infused espresso concoctions) and upscale restaurants dot the streets of Thonglor, while the nearby BTS station (a five-minute walk away) puts you three stops from the Em District, a cluster of chic malls filled with concept stores from the hottest brands in fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

EmSphere, the latest addition to the shopping district, is a megamall where you could easily spend your entire getaway. From a myriad of local Thai fashion label pop-ups to a Club 21 flagship, this mall is a fashion-lover’s playground that will make it hard to leave. For something more educational, Bangkok Planetarium is five minutes away, and offers interactive exhibits and captivating shows on the mysteries of space. Closer to home, the The Spa by Harnn is a gorgeous sanctuary of rejuvenation, located right next to the infinity pool and well-stocked gym. Indulge in a full body massage after a full day of exploring Sukhumvit’s vibrant streets, and your feet will thank you.

The dining
It’s Bangkok, so you are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to food. You might be tempted to order in a deliciously spicy bowl of wagyu krapow from Phed Mark (the double-yolked duck egg is mandatory) or head to EmSphere to try Thong Smith’s flagship hotpot restaurant, but the hotel itself offers plenty of options for the days when you just want comfort and exemplary service.
Enjoy a continental dinner at Ava Brasserie, a well-appointed European restaurant inspired by Pan Am’s key destinations including London, New York, Tokyo, Miami, Frankfurt and Bangkok. The Lobby, meanwhile, is a stylish all-day lounge that offers divine brews, ranging from authentic Thai blends to a traditional Japanese green tea ceremony. A hidden highlight is the executive lounge, reserved only for guests staying in the suites. In this sun-filled enclave, tuck into a sumptuous breakfast of Asian and international delights, as you take in the view of the city—building anticipation for the day of exploration to come.
