Bangkok is revered as a city that never sleeps. Where else in the world would you be able to find a fresh plate of Pad Thai at 3am? It’s evident from the buzzing nightlife scene that partying is simply a way of life here—the endless rows of boisterous streets and dedicated entertainment areas for both locals and travellers alike will tell you this much. From snazzy rooftop bars to all-nighter raves, there’s bound to be something up your alley in the nightlife scene in Bangkok.
Celebrated visual artist Karma Sirikogar was born in Singapore but resides in Bangkok when she is not showing her work around the globe. Renowned for its addictive street food and shopping, what sets Bangkok’s nightlife apart are its party streets, each with its own personality. And indeed, once night falls, the city gets on its feet to dance.

With art that is often described as surrealist and psychedelic, Sirikogar never shies away from a good party. But as a mother of one, she has become more discerning about where she chooses to go. “To me, partying is about considering all our senses through eclectic music, an authentic ambience and a tasteful bar,” she shares. Below, see her shortlist of nightlife reccs; some of her picks may not involve alcohol, but still promise a good time.

Bangkok Island
The island-themed bar and restaurant boast an incredible open air concept right on the Chao Phrayah river. Once an old ship, Bangkok Island has been soulfully renovated to host every type of party under the sun. The highlight, according to Sirikogar, are the musical performances here, and in particular—the live world music acts and tribal electronic DJs.

Tichuca
What sets this rooftop bar apart from the rest? The jungle-inspired decor and tiki-style drinks. According to Sirikogar, you’ll get the best panoramic views of the city from this bar on the 46th floor of the T-one building in Sukhumvit. “Enjoy the funky R&B music and ’90s hits,” Sirikogar adds.

House of Heals
“The best drag show bar in town that gets everyone dancing without fail,” Sirikogar vouches for House of Heals. Home to legendary Thai drag queen Pangina Heals, it’s no wonder why the bar is a cult favourite for a good time. Conveniently located in the heart of Bangkok above the Renaissance Hotel, know you’ll be entertained with a quality show in an opulent venue.

A hidden gem tucked away from the main streets of Bangkok, Smalls’s antique shabby-chic interior paired with the most eclectic of jazz music makes this a cozy joint to enjoy quality cocktails. This bar is covered in art from local artists and great for intimate conversations.
