There are levels to this. This, being a celebrity Halloween transformation. The easiest step is choosing the characters they’re emulating. Then comes the intense moodboarding, the lowdown of exactly how far they intend to go with this, from developing custom costumes, to deciding if the bit requires the handiwork of SFX artists, or even prosthetics. Sometimes transformations might be limited to the screen, with plenty of folks opting to use social media as a medium for re-enacting pop culture moments that feel nostalgic. Throwing back to a musical icon is always a fun one; Paris Hilton’s got Britney Spears’s ‘Oops!…I Did it Again’ on her mind, whilst Winnie Harlow channelled Whitney Houston this year. As for who really took it to the next level? Sans Halloween royalty herself (read: Heidi Klum), Katseye’s entire music video entry certainly made its mark. Where they employ Bowen Yang as one willing host to their Mariah Carey homage, with each member taking on one of her music video roles…before they breakout into their hit song ‘Gabriela’.
Many others have instead taken the character-led route; Keke Palmer slipped into Jessica Alba’s iconic role from 2003 film Honey, Megan Thee Stallion channelled the dark and depressed Choso from popular anime Jujutsu Kaisen, and Eugene Lee Yang brought out his best Jinu moves, reliving the fun of this year’s hit animation K-pop Demon Hunters.
Of course, it’s a yearly affair to await Klum’s full-bodied transformation on the red carpet. Back in 2024, she phoned home and took us to space with E.T, so the stakes were certainly high. But leave it to the queen of Halloween to outdo herself with a Medusa serve this time around. Below, all the celebrity transformations who deserve to go trick-or-treating for Halloween this year.
