Adieu, Paris. As the final week of fashion shows for the fall/winter 2024 season comes to a close, we can’t help but look back on the nuances of it all. The City of Light, of course, brought the industry greats to the forefront. It started off strong with showings from Dior and Saint Laurent; the latter, a magical rebirth of sheer, transparent garments—signature to the house—which moulded and moved with the bodies in them. More highly-anticipated moments were also par for course later on in the week, with Chemana Kamali’s and Seán McGirr’s expected debuts at Chloé and Alexander McQueen respectively. We also saw science at play with that enchanting Coperni bag made of aerogel, a literal creation dreamt out of air.
As with every fashion week deliverance however, it is public knowledge now that the social media buzz ultimately belongs to the streets. Just ask any devoted fan standing outside the show. A couple of seconds is all it takes: when a beloved celebrity steps out of their chosen mode of transport—appearing like starlight just outside the various allotted venues, sending everyone into an immediate frenzy. Indeed, the affairs of who sits front row is a delicate task diligently trained to perfection by each maison, and with each passing season, it’s become an increasingly integral aspect of the shows.
So how did the scene in Paris play out? At Dior, all of the big names came trotting in, including the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Elizabeth Debicki and house ambassador Jisoo. The latter’s fellow Blackpink members also made their appearances at the shows, some more expected than others—as Lisa surprised us with her turn at Louis Vuitton on the last day. There was also a scattering of famous Thai names everywhere, from PP Krit at Balenciaga to Off Jumpol at Loewe. The boys of K-pop group Seventeen were also seen at different shows: Mingyu and Dino were first-timers at Dior and Off-White respectively, whilst Jeonghan made his return to the Paris Fashion Week circuit with his appearance at the Saint Laurent men’s fall/winter 2024 show.
