It’s been a busy week in Seoul. All over the city—and from every corner of culture—the capital of South Korea has been set ablaze. At Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the fashion set fell in, all to soak in the atmosphere of the ongoing spring/summer 2026 shows for Seoul Fashion Week. Gentle Monster held its starry celebratory opening for its towering Haus Nowhere Seoul in Seongsu. Meanwhile, over at COEX, the buzzy, returning Frieze Seoul was run concurrently alongside Kiaf Seoul—as Seoul Art Week unfolded across the city with fringe activations and exhibition openings.
Over the past four years, Frieze Seoul has been a growing institution in the art world—welcoming a number of independent galleries from all over the world to the whopping art fair. Poised like a curation of the best of the best, the various artworks brought in span mediums of all sorts, from thought-provoking installations to sculptural works and a stellar range of breathtaking paintings, each one with a distinct art style. One could enter the space and expect to admire works from renowned Korean artists such as Park Seo-bo, world-famous names like Philip Colbert and Takashi Murakami or chance upon the works of emerging artists from various parts of the world. Frieze Seoul also held its Seoul Neighbourhood Nights throughout the week; spanning from Hannam to Euljiro, smaller exhibition pop-ups and activations provided a lens into the city’s diverse cultural scene.
Yet, as with its previous iterations, part of the buzz surrounding its appeal stems from the celebrity interest it has garnered over the years. On the evening of its grand opening, Paradise Art Night alone already saw the biggest names in K-pop grace the high-octane affair, with members of both Blackpink and BTS in attendance. Notably a known art enthusiast, BTS’s leader RM was spotted with fellow bandmate, V, as well. Whilst Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé all also came out to play that evening. Elsewhere, members of Seventeen also attended the multitude of other art week activations; The8 was specially invited to view prolific artist’s Lee Jin Woo’s works, whilst his fellow member Hoshi showed his support for the opening of Colbert’s supersized ‘Lobster Sunflower’ sculpture.
