So the red carpet saga continues, but this time around it’s in Venice. Back for its 82nd iteration, the Venice Film Festival is the world’s oldest celebration of artistry and expression through cinematography. With 21 highly-anticipated films vying for the esteemed Golden Lion—of which many are bound to be Oscar runners come award season— it’s inevitable that the picturesque island of Lido will see a constellation of A-list stars arrive at its shores. One only needs to glance at the dazzling line-up of films slated to premiere over the course of 11 days to recognise the magnitude of the starry celebrity set that we might anticipate a red carpet appearance from.
Amidst this year’s roster of films that will premiere at Venice sits Luca Guadagnino’s latest star-studded thriller, After the Hunt. Screening out of competition, from the trailer alone, many know to expect the likes of Hollywood heavyweights like Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloë Seigny, and Julia Roberts, with the latter making her red carpet debut at the Palazzo del Cinema. At the same time, Guillermo del Toro’s dark family drama Frankenstein will welcome Jacob Elordi and period drama regulars Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, Ralph Ineson, and Mia Goth to the island city.
Not to be missed? Two-time Academy Award winner George Clooney, who stars as a gigantic movie star in his 60s facing an identity crisis in Jay Kelly. Featuring an ensemble cast including Adam Sandler (as Clooney’s character Jay’s manager, Ron) and Greta Gerwig, this Noah Baumbach-directed comedy-drama explores fame, ageing, and self-discovery through a heartfelt and humorous European road trip. There’s also Emma Stone in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, Sofia Coppola’s Marc Jacobs documentary Marc by Sofia, and Charli XCX’s acting debut in 100 Nights of Hero alongside Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, and Nicholas Galitzine. Safe to say, it’s a list that’s stacked.
With the opening night of the film festival done and dusted, a trove of actors and industry stalwarts have already graced the red carpet. Cate Blanchett, for one, swooped in re-wearing a custom-made Armani Privé gown, the very same one she donned previously at the SAG Awards in 2022. Meanwhile, supermodel Barbara Palvin was seen in a sultry Intimissimi offering. And to heighten the anticipation for her upcoming film, Julia Roberts expressed her love for her After The Hunt director Luca Guadagnino via a quirky cardigan.
Below, spy the best of celebrity red carpet arrivals at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, with only more to come.
