What would the Venice Film Festival—with the buzz of megawatt star power and countless red carpets, evenings and event—be without the requisite dazzling jewellery? This year is no exception, and perhaps even more of a potent return to form after the subdued tone of the 2023 edition which took place amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Biennale, now in its 81st edition, opened on the evening of 28 August. On the red carpet that night, already a strong start to a growing list of fabulous looks. See Monica Bellucci, for one, debuting a brand new high jewellery Cartier necklace from the Nature Sauvage collection that is still being revealed.
Angelina Jolie’s comeback also took fabulous form in her red carpet looks and jewels that paid homage to Maria Callas, the opera diva that Jolie plays in her latest film. Particularly touching: an archival Cartier brooch that Callas herself owned and wore, and which Jolie wore in the film and at Venice. “You can imagine how special it was,” she told Vogue in an exclusive interview on these jewels.
Other noteworthy jewellery moments at the Venice Film Festival so far: Cate Blanchett repurposing, once more, Louis Vuitton pearl high jewellery that she has worn on the red carpet before. The actress has become an advocate of rewearing and repurposing her fashion, and her jewels are no exception. The pearls she wore in Venice—draped across her shoulders—were the very ones she had worn at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
See also what is perhaps the most staggeringly chic way of wearing a diamond pendant, courtesy of Taylor Russell. The Canadian actress and model is fast cementing her place as a style icon of the times, and so far she has had not one, not two, but three major red carpet moments in Venice—wearing in all of them jewellery by Tiffany & Co. The most indisputably fabulous came on the night of the Maria premiere. Russell, in a Loewe dress with a swooping low back, wore a Tiffany diamond (over 11-carats, thank you) backwards, letting it drape and rest between her shoulder blades. Simply beautiful.
