In terms of standout moments to recall from Paris last week, it’s safe to say that Doja Cat’s glinting gear of 30,000 Swarovski crystals at the Schiaparelli show has easily taken the cake. Notably, the show she attended also gained plenty of attention on its own, for Daniel Roseberry’s runway theatrics of faux animal heads that looked to Dante’s Inferno for inspiration. But Roseberry had not been the only one with a firm hand to play on the chessboard at haute couture week; from mesmerising couture debuts by the likes of Miss Sohee and Robert Wun to Haider Ackermann’s immaculate designs for Jean Paul Gaultier.
And with any couture show, it’s only to be expected that each look comes well-accompanied by beauty moments that succeed in completing the imagined portrait of its wearer. In Kim Jones’s version of couture this spring/summer 2023 season, the ethereal lightness of his clothes were conveyed through the use of white shimmers, on otherwise pared-back skin. Spectacular tailoring and detailing on Jean Paul Gaultier’s runway saw vivid contrasts and a focus around the eyes, all exacted with chic sophistication.
Approaches to the crowns we wear were no less, where old Hollywood glamour of wet, styled manes were spotted on the runways of Elie Saab and Dior, the latter having been a precious ode to Josephine Baker. Headpieces also had its crowning hour at Robert Wun: where a variety of accessories were relied on to deliver the full extent of his garments.
As the beauty enthusiasts we call ourselves, we certainly had our personal favourite hair and make-up pulls from the past week in Paris. Scroll on to glean our shortlist of the best of haute couture beauty from the spring/summer 2023 season’s shows.
