The stage of Met Gala 2022 was set in stone—to celebrate the historical museum’s new exhibition, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, which serves as an in-depth exploration of American fashion. The theme? Gilded Glamour, which dates back to an important sliver of history, particularly from 1870-1900. It was a time of rapid economic growth and in turn, led to an era of extreme poverty and inequality, as millions of immigrants entered the United States for labour and industralisation.
The theme was succinct yet open-ended in a way; A-list celebrities each interpreted it differently, of course—mostly guided by modern nuances as well as this season’s hottest trends. But one thing was for sure, it had to be worthy of the sacred steps of the Metropolitan Museum of New York. Astounding jewellery was aplenty, in the form of statement chokers and dazzling drop earrings while regencycore remained a relentless sighting in the form of elaborate collars and fitted corsets.
Fashion’s biggest night saw many recurring attendees, too—from Sarah Jessica Parker to this year’s co-chair Blake Lively, as well as a bevy of Asian celebrities. Squid Game breakout star and Louis Vuitton ambassador HoYeon Jung showed up for her first Met appearance in a mini frock interlaid with leather detailing paired with over-the-knee boots. Decked out in a bolder choice was Emily in Paris‘s Ashley Park—in a pink textured frock from Prabal Gurung.
Meanwhile, actor Riz Ahmed paid important tribute to the immigrants who were instrumental for the glided age with his outfit—in an undone jacket, undershirt, and knee-high boots from Prada.
Below, we revisit the best looks from the Asian celebrities at this year’s Met Gala.
