Two things are just around the corner: Nicolas Roeg’s 1990 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches and Halloween. Granted that this year’s All Hallows’ Eve will look slightly different for most of us because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate it. Better yet, why not combine both à la Anne Hathaway.
The Devil Wears Prada actor has been giving us sneak insights into her incoming transformation. Taking on the role of the Grand High Witch, previously played by Anjelica Huston of course, she looks just as terrifying as Huston’s take on it. For starters, just look at the clip she shared on Instagram. In short: Be prepared to struggle sleeping—again.

How should one look when playing a witch whose mission is to turn the world’s children into rodents and have them exterminated—starting with the ones in her hotel? With a “resting witch face” of course. Taking to Instagram, Hathaway shared a photo of just that. With sky-high voluminous silver beehive-inspired hair, she perfected her look with bold purple eyeshadow, dark plum lips (with a frightening extended smile scar, courtesy of make-up artist Paula Price) and gothly pale skin. Terrifyingly good.
Mark your calendars and perfect your ‘resting witch face’ because The Witches reboot will be available to stream via Premium Video On Demand in the UK from 26 October.
