Fall 2019—that was when Givenchy Beauty first introduced its extended wardrobe of Le Rouge lipsticks, with the addition of buttery matte Deep Velvet and shimmery Night Noir textures. Who would have thought that less than a year later, our relationships with lipsticks would change completely? What used to be a daily essential that we quickly swipe on has become a special beauty treat, one that we share intimate make-up moments with at home, take extra time with to dress up our faces, and excitedly unveil as we take off our masks at dinner.
And it seems Le Rouge Deep Velvet, with its luxurious powdery matte formula, is the wand many lipstick lovers are wielding in these unique times.
From a texture perspective, its blend of nourishing oils, emollients and mattifying powders provide sensorial glide and a creamy, lightweight film that keeps lips plump and cushioned. Colour-wise, it packs a richly pigmented punch that remains intense and ultra matte for hours. And like the rest of the Le Rouge collection, its packaging too, draws inspiration from Givenchy’s fashion universe, covered in red suedine sheath that hints at the plushness within. In its own way, the smallest couture accessory by the house, developed under the guidance of Make-up and Colour Artistic Director, Nicolas Degennes. He says: “There is an amazing contrast in velvet as a fabric, it’s strong yet soft, it can be deep or vibrant, but it always follows the lines of the body, like a second skin almost…which inspired me to create Le Rouge Deep Velvet, where colour is encapsulated in a powder-like texture that applies seamlessly to the lips, leaving a super-soft, richly pigmented matte texture on them”.
Celebrating the success of Deep Velvet comes eight new catalogue colours: from rosy mauve Nude Rosé and deep terracotta 27 Rouge Infusé, to L’Interdit, where the French word for forbidden is encapsulated in a wildly decadent dark berry hue. Also joining this luscious matte line-up is a limited edition shade, 51 Rose Fusain, a chocolate-y rosewood. “Colour should be timeless, vibrant and without compromise, and for me, Le Rouge embodies those qualities. I have imagined these new shades as a banner for a woman’s lips, a fiery orange and a forbidden red, edgy burgundy and purple, and daily but distinctive nudes”, adds Degennes.
The iconic red lip, 37 Rouge Grainé
But when it comes to the iconic red lip, there is one shade that is both classic and high impact: 37 Rouge Grainé. Asia’s favourite shade from the Deep Velvet range, this rich crimson hue strikes a contemporary balance between warm and cool undertones, making it universally flattering for all complexions. And because it’s been selling out across the region, Givenchy Beauty has launched this sought after red hue in its classic Le Rouge luminous-matte formula—housed in a black leather lipstick case—for those who prefer a more lustrous pout. 37 also stars in the Le Rouge campaign, faced by Blanca Padilla who is a vision of modern-day elegance with a bold red lip paired with clean, fresh skin and bushy brows.
