Perhaps, ‘Reverie’ just might be the word that suits Jennie best. Ever the fashion muse, with a sweet voice floating through the air and traipsing around the globe with a spring in her step, there’s no question as to why the K-pop starlet seems to shine like a beacon of light to her stupendous legion of fans, the Blinks. Be it her stirring style cards or the stage presence she commands when she’s in her element, the BLACKPINK member is very much the stuff dreams are made of. Or at least, she comes extremely close.
In 2023, Jennie has done it all—from launching her very own capsule collection with Calvin Klein to headlining Coachella. As of late, she’s even made not one but two prestigious red carpet debuts: at the Met Gala and Cannes Film Festival earlier in May. The latter, in part due to her recent debut as an actor in HBO’s highly-contentious drama, The Idol. But if we were to cut through all the buzz, who is Jennie Kim, really? We raise the curtains on the seasoned seven-year idol—for as it turns out, she might not be all that different from the rest of us. Unless, we’re talking about how no one really pulls off a Chanel tweed set quite like she does.
Below, the five things we’ve learnt about Jennie Kim, since ascending into the Jennieverse with our July/August ‘Reverie’ cover star.

She's not afraid to speak her own mind
Whilst Jennie may consider herself just a ‘normal, shy girl’ when she’s off-stage and away from cameras, the superstar is fully aware of the weight of her words. Despite her status as a global icon, choosing to speak her mind is something the South Korean idol recognises as power in itself: the privilege of being able to offer her own voice. “You need to have the ability to question people with your own views and perspectives, rather than just giving the answer that everyone accepts or the story that everyone likes,” offers Jennie.

She believes in the power of positive manifestation
Manifest it. That just might be the all-encompassing message befitting of the confident, charismatic rapper we saw on the Coachella stage earlier this year, when asked after her advice for other aspiring artists. Confidence is key: “If you believe in yourself more than anyone else and work hard, you will make things happen one way or another. A positive mindset is key and filling your mind with positive thoughts can help you stay motivated.” As it seems, a great deal of discipline and an even greater deal of undying self-belief will go a long way in the road to success.

She has a failsafe list of in-flight beauty essentials, all tried-and-tested
We’ve all got our own list of in-flight must-haves but there’s definitely no harm in taking notes from someone who always finds herself jet-setting around. A pillow and sleeping mask are constants in Jennie’s personal packing list—all to make sure she can get her beauty sleep on the plane. A lip balm, according to her, is always well within reach too.

She always brings around a slice of home with her on her travels
Even global superstars get homesick—and Jennie is no exception. In fact, for someone who might always find herself up in the clouds, she may only know the feeling all too well. To combat this, Jennie’s travel essentials always include things that ground her and remind her of home. To her, those things just might be a set of comfy pajamas, her pillow and her aromatic oils. Nothing quite like a familiar scent to transform a foreign space into something akin to home.

Namsan Mountain is her favourite spot to catch a night view in Seoul
From the Born Pink World Tour with the rest of her members to her endless stream of red carpet appearances abroad, it’s clear that Jennie is booked and busy. Whilst she may be travelling all over the globe however, it seems there are still places she wishes to revisit again and again—even if it’s back home in South Korea. The ever-appealing Namsan Mountain (home to Namsan Tower), she claims, is the best place to catch a view of that magnetic capture of Seoul’s city skyline.
