“Touch is fraught now; proximity is drought now!” This was artist and photographer Roe Ethridge’s response to the theme of Vogue Singapore’s February issue, ‘Touch’. Ahead of the issue’s launch this Friday, Ethridge created a short teaser video titled ‘[non] Sense of Touch’, featuring our February cover star, Yasmin Wijnaldum.
The issue’s theme is an ode to the many faces and layers of touch—the very thing that connects us in a time where physical touch has drastically reduced while virtual touch has dramatically increased. Working alongside our international fashion director Daniela Paudice, the resulting video is a bouquet of textures and sensations that speak to Ethridge’s signature visual style.
“We were trying to convey that the sense of touch and sight are connected,” Ethridge tells Vogue Singapore. “When I was younger, I used to think my fingers had eyes.” This synaesthetic approach is front and centre in Ethridge’s interpretation of our February theme. In celebration of the sense we’ve taken for granted, watch a teaser of our February issue through Ethridge’s lens.
