Rain or shine, the Copenhagen Fashion Week will go on. As we await the key shows for spring/summer 2024 over in the big four fashion capitals, the Denmark capital is eager to prove its might—bringing new, unparalleled energy to the sartorial scene, with its forward-looking ethos that puts huge emphasis on the sustainability front, since the implementation of the Copenhagen Fashion Week Action Plan in 2020.
Since the fall/winter 2024 season earlier this year, the requirements for a label to show on the runway during the course of the week demands both environmental and ethical concerns to be placed at the forefront: including the use of recyclable materials, smart design choices and the approach to runway production. It certainly gives way to the high impact deliveries that have been seen on the runways so far; think Copenhagen-based label (di)vision who was behind the Dressed for Disaster show last season where a model’s formal gown was embroidered with cutlery, which made for the illusion of a tablecloth for the table she was seated at.
To align with these higher demands, the creative output across the board has transformed into a landscape to look forward to, evidenced from this season’s line-up alone. Amidst staple Scandinavian brands Saks Potts and Ganni on the roster, also exists an exciting crop of up-and-coming brands such as Nicklas Skovgaard and Paolina Russo. All of which, will undeniably bring a swarm of sartorial-inclined individuals to the streets of the Danish capital. Where vivacious colours, myriad textures and eclectic approaches to layering are embraced, as the crowd keeps the wet, chilly weather in mind.
