It’s a starry evening like no other. The 2024 Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” welcomed a bevy of celebrities—of first-time attendees and gala regulars—on its red carpet. Speaking of fresh debuts, this year’s iteration saw another first: Stray Kids as the first K-pop group to grace the esteemed gala.
The octet, which comprises Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Sungmin and I.N, made quite the entrance, fully fitted out in Tommy Hilfiger. While this might be their first time at the Met Gala, their arrival is not entirely a surprise, considering their recent sartorial resonance. First, being campaign stars of the American house, as they embued youth and warmth in Tommy Hilfiger’s fall 2023 campaign last year. Individually, a few of them have also taken the fashion realm by storm. Hyunjin as Versace’s ambassador and Felix tapped for Louis Vuitton (and even recently a model in a runway show!), while other members like I.N and Sungmin made FROW appearances at Alexander McQueen and Loewe’s fall/winter 2024 shows respectively.
Making a case for sharp tailoring in custom Tommy Hilfiger, all eyes were certainly on the eight members—donning on colours of white, red, black and navy blue. Indeed, an epic, unforgettable moment for the Stays (the K-pop group’s fandom name) and one to commemorate on the iconic Met steps.
