In anticipation of National Day, here is Vogue Singapore’s edit of 5 of the most desirable red and white fashion items that will keep you looking fashionable on 9 August and beyond.

1. Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove Box bag
Valentino has released new iterations and interpretations of its Rockstud line of accessories for the pre-autumn 2021 season, one of which being the Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove Box bag. The bag encapsulates the central idea behind the brand’s Roman Palazzo collection—gentleness and radicalism—by melding binaries together in a seamless and timeless way.
The box shape lends a geometric quality to the bag, which is tempered with its supple calfskin finish so it is structured without feeling hard. Embellished with the brand’s iconic Rockstud flip closure and studs, the bag retains a classic, bourgeois, lady-like properness while still being somewhat punk at the same time, and in National Day-appropriate classic Valentino red, no less.
The Rockstud Alcove box bag comes in a similar design in black and in an entirely studded version.

2. Burberry Oval Frame Sunglasses
For Burberry’s third TB Summer Monogram collection, “I wanted to celebrate the balance of our heritage with the importance of always evolving and looking forwards. The collection captures that optimistic feeling of summer and that feeling of constant momentum, the excitement for what’s next,” said Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci.
This tastefully rendered pair of oval framed sunglasses from the collection is the perfect summer (ie. year-round for Singapore) accessory, featuring a sporty wraparound frame with a raised logo on the temple. To get the full look, you should consider the matching visor and T-shirt as seen in the video.

3. Balenciaga Women’s Runner sneaker
As part of its Winter 2021 collection, Balenciaga has released the Runner sneaker, a new addition to its highly covetable arsenal of footwear. As the name implies, the Runner sneaker features an athletic design meant to mimic that of a traditional spring soled running shoe, but translated through the Balenciaga DNA with a cut-up, almost deconstructed aesthetic. In addition to white, it is also available in black and burgundy.

4. Max Mara 7 for 70! Anniversary T-shirt
In celebration of 70 years in the fashion business, Max Mara has collaborated with 7 artists to release a capsule collection of T-shirts. The collaboration sees the works of William Wegman, Francois Berthoud, Brain Grimwood, Valery Katsuba, Brunetta, Erberto Carboni and Brigitte Niedermair (version pictured above)—all of whom have either been inspirations or collaborators with the brand—printed on 7 distinct T-shirts. The brand chose to work with T-shirts as a translation of timelessness and possibility, tropes of the Max Mara identity—T-shirts being the ultimate wardrobe staple and an entirely blank canvas open to endless interpretations.

5. Gentle Monster x Heron Preston Level 0 C1 glasses

Gentle Monster’s first collaboration with Heron Preston was born out of a mutual understanding and desire to connect to a larger audience through art and culture. The collaboration sees the launch of 3 pairs of glasses, all of which have been inspired by workwear design, a core element of the Heron Preston brand. Preston sought to introduce the “spirit level”, an integral signature of his brand, into these sunglasses. Initially introduced as part of a heel design for a women’s boot in his eponymous line, the “spirit level” has been translated through the line of the temple to mimic ostensibly, the line of a level. These rectangular sunglasses, pictured here in the clear version, all feature bold design elements on both temples—notably, Heron Preston’s tag on the right side—and are available in black and navy gradient with UV protected lenses.
