Just when we thought Gucci’s Doraemon collaboration was peak sartorial cuteness, the Italian maison’s newest capsule collection maxes out on the novelty factor. The latest animated character to clinch a cameo in Alessandro Michele’s whimsical universe is Bananya—a Japanese, banana-dwelling cat. Armed with big dreams of eventually becoming a chocolate-covered banana (I mean, we get it), the quirky feline has won over anime superfans and cartoon novices alike.
Launched in collaboration with American publisher Crunchyroll, the addition to Gucci’s Ouverture collection consists of ready-to-wear pieces, shoes and playful accessories. It isn’t all bells and whistles, though. For those looking to inject subtle fun into their everyday outfits, the capsule boasts accessories such as a glass-beaded banana brooch, a crystal-embellished pendant and white Rhyton leather sneakers.
As for the maximalists? Choose from an array of cotton sweatshirts, hoodies and T-shirts—available in white, baby pink, mint green and black—all topped off with bold Bananya prints. Throw in a custom version of the popular Ace sneaker, and it’s safe to say Gucci is innately manga-approved.
The Gucci x Bananya capsule collection is now available in all Gucci stores islandwide.
