Fans of Studio Ghibli’s cinematic anime film, My Neighbour Totoro now have a designer collection to express their love for the film’s adorable characters.
Spanish luxury brand Loewe has collaborated with the studio to bring its beloved cast of characters to its ready-to-wear and leather accessories line. The capsule collection comprises of hoodies, t-shirts, bags, and small leather goods that blend the titular Totoro creatures, the magic tree where Totoro spends its time, and the adorable dust bunnies in the brand’s own whimsical style.
Drawing on its rich heritage of leather marquetry, the forest spirits and dust bunnies are worked onto the brand’s iconic Puzzle bag, Balloon bag, Hammock bag, as well as wallets and cardholders. T-shirts and hoodies also feature the characters, while the magic tree has been worked onto sweaters and shirts using wonderfully tactile tapestry embroidery. What’s more, the cheerful palette of yellow, green, sky blue and tan brown also reference the countryside and forest scenes found in the film.
Talking of the decision to team up with Studio Ghibli, Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson said, “There is a natural longing for heartwarming feelings right now. When I think of a movie that affords me that kind of solace, speaking just as directly to a child as it does to an adult, that movie is My Neighbor Totoro. The story of Mei and Satsuki’s friendship with the magical Totoro and his cohorts, the mischievous dust bunnies, who can’t be seen by adults but only by the children who love them, is truly touching. It is a product of craft in the form of an animated movie.”
The Loewe x My Neighbour Totoro capsule collection will be available online and in-stores from 8 January 2021.
