The show in 10 words: High-octane fashion party charged with lingerie, techno and diverse bodies
Designer: Shawna Wu
Location: Lucali BYGB, Singapore
The vision: Taking inspiration from the Xenogenesis series by Octavia Butler, Shawna Wu and Wildblur‘s runway rave titled ‘Ooloi’ touches on themes of love, otherness and transgressive intimacy. Complete with a dance pole and neon lights, the swanky interiors of restaurant Lucali BYGB were transformed into a space fit for a decadent show that celebrates radical beauty. Connection by way of collaborations also saw Southeast Asian models, dancers, DJs and director Josh Tirados taking part in the fashion meets clubbing extravaganza.
The vibe: Excitement was everywhere as models—adorned with face jewels, braids and headpieces—strutted around the intimate show space in Wu’s sensual body of work, soundtracked to techno beats and Beyoncé’s ‘Naughty Girl’.
Signature silhouettes: Modelled by the likes of Mae Tan, Alley Teo and butoh dancer Xue, some of the collection’s highlights included: a sheer corset, a black harness-style braided bra as well as statement mini skirts with fringe and beaded detailing. Wu’s lingerie sets offered layering inspiration as well, demonstrating how they can be incorporated into trends like underwear-as-outerwear and subversive basics.
What to shop from the collection: Be it a full look or undergarments, Shawna Wu’s handmade designs are known for their Chinese butterfly knots, risqué take on upcycled lace and inclusivity—think lingerie sets with flat and pouch cuts. The assortment of sheer dresses and camisoles from her SSENSE capsule collection are ideal wardrobe additions for those seeking skin-baring pieces. Striking a balance between breathable materials and maximalist drama, Wu’s creations are your best bet to stylishly beat the heat in Singapore.
